About the Position

The City of Mesa is seeking a skilled Solid Waste Equipment Operator II to join our team. As a key component in our Environmental Management and Sustainability Department, this position plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our residents, businesses, and visitors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various heavy equipment, including Automated Side-load (ASL), Commercial Front Load (FL), and Commercial Rolloff (RO) Equipment. This will involve performing tasks related to the collection, transportation, and disposal of refuse and recyclables.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual who can work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will possess a valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction and a valid medical examiner's certificate.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment, including ASL, FL, and RO equipment, with a focus on safety and efficiency
  • Perform tasks related to the collection, transportation, and disposal of refuse and recyclables
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, taking initiative to assist in manual and technical aspects of construction, maintenance, and repair activities
  • Interact with customers with respect and integrity, providing excellent customer service
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, as required

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years of full-time employment operating heavy vehicles and/or construction equipment
  • Valid Arizona Class B CDL with no air brake restriction and a valid medical examiner's certificate by hire or promotion date
  • Preferred experience operating solid waste equipment, such as front loaders, automated side loaders, roll-offs, or rear loaders
