Purpose and Scope

The Business Office Clerk plays a vital role in the timely submission of claims to third-party payors and collection of outstanding accounts receivable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and payors.
  • Review and submit claims to third-party payors in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with monthly invoicing to guarantors for continued care.
  • Registration and charge entry for physician services provided in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Collection and follow-up on outstanding accounts receivable, maintaining a current collection list.
  • Review and resolve accounts with credit balances, requesting refunds and/or adjustments as necessary.
  • Document all collection efforts and contacts in the patient accounting system.
  • Inform the Business Office Manager of any potential issues that may delay payment or arise with specific payors.
  • Resubmit claims as necessary and maintain a log of claim resubmissions.
Requirements

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with knowledge of medical billing and collections experience.
