Job Description - Emergency Department Supply Lead (3304168) Emergency Department Supply Lead - (3304168) Under direct supervision of the Emergency Department Director of Operations and the Operations Manager, the ED Asst Operations Supervisor (AOS) provides shift leadership responsibilities for Support Associates. The AOS serves as the point person for clinical staff in addressing supply and equipment problems and concerns and ensures that all supplies and equipment are available and maintained. The ED AOS will work closely with nurse management, staff nurses, the ED Materials Coordinator, and the Emergency Service Assistants (ESA) to ensure equipment and supplies are available and stocked. The ED AOS is also trained as a Support Associate.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Shift SupervisionSupports and assigns duties to the Emergency Department Support Associates.Assists in monitoring the workflow for supply and equipment management. Adjusts resources as necessary to meet changing needs in the department.Reports issues with employees to Operations Manager.Serves as a supply and equipment resource for all Emergency Department staff. Maintains expertise in all areas of supply and equipment management.Manages schedule for Support Associates. Coordinates shift breaks and time-off.Central Supply ManagementCompletes inventory, maintains par levels, and stocks Emergency Department supply rooms, closets, and medication rooms on a daily basis. Maintains overall organization and cleanliness of supply rooms.Works with hospital Materials Management staff to ensure that Emergency Department supplies are delivered from the central supply area to the Emergency Department clean supply room.Maintains inventory of special purchase items.Supply and Equipment Management/Daily OperationsResponds to urgent pages from clinical staff. Provides customer service support to end users.Checks each treatment bay in area(s) assigned for shift. Ensures that all supplies and equipment (including headwall items) are present, clean, in working order, and organized.Checks, stocks, and organizes supply carts in each treatment bay in area(s) assigned for shift.Checks, maintains, cleans, and organizes equipment located in area(s) assigned for shift, including centrally managed equipment.Delivers soiled equipment to Sterile Processing Department for decontamination.Monitors expiration dates of commodities by rotating stock and visually checking expiration dates.Collaborates with Emergency Department clinical and administrative staff to identify and remedy supply and equipment problems.Stocks patient treatment rooms with all necessary forms.Helps maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment in the Emergency Department.Completes report at the end of each shift to document tasks completed and items requiring follow up.Tracks locations of ED owned equipment when it is assigned to and travels with patients.Other TasksProvides feedback to leadership team regarding supply level adjustments.Performs cart overhaul tasks as needed.Assists in equipment/department deep cleaning efforts as necessary.Completes required documentation according to department policies and procedures.Assists in product recall activities and product conversions.Reports discrepancies, problems, or questions to Supervisor.Follows Hospital, Joint Commission, and Department of Public Health guidelines and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned.SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Ability to lead employees in a stressful environment.Strong problem solving skills and excellent judgment.Appropriate physical condition and strength for cleaning, pushing, pulling, and some heavy lifting (up to fifty pounds).Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.Basic knowledge of medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.Ability to organize and maximize storage space.Basic computer skills.Working knowledge of infection control guidelines.Strong interpersonal skills.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Provides shift supervision for Support Associates (approximately 2 staff members per shift).
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Considers financial implications of decisions related to daily supply order, equipment management, and use of overtime.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Able to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment. Ability to stand for several hours at a time. Appropriate physical condition and strength for cleaning, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma and/or 2 years prior experience in a similar clinical setting preferred.At least two years supervisory experience preferred.BWH is an Affirmative Action Employer.
