Chief Medical Officer and Senior Strategist

Key Responsibilities:
As a key member of the senior management team at Advocate Health, the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Strategist plays a critical role in shaping the medical center's strategic direction and ensuring the effective functioning of the Medical Staff. This includes participating in strategic planning, representing Medical Staff interests to Hospital Leadership, and serving as a liaison between the two. The successful candidate will also be responsible for initiating and coordinating ongoing Medical Staff/medical center projects and activities, as well as providing leadership and guidance to the Medical Staff organization to achieve its short- and long-term objectives. Additionally, this role involves coordinating and providing staffing for Medical Staff committee activities, serving as a resource, and providing appropriate leadership, influence, and guidance. The Chief Medical Officer and Senior Strategist will also be responsible for planning and implementing programs to achieve Medical Staff goals, working closely with the Medical Staff President, other elected Medical Staff officers, department, and committee chairpersons, and responding to elected Medical Staff members. This role requires a strong ability to foster and contribute to a close, mutually beneficial relationship between the Medical Staff and the medical center, as well as serving as an integral member of the medical center's management team and working to foster positive team interaction to support medical center goals and projects. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing leadership for capacity management initiatives, working with all disciplines to improve patient flow in support of optimal patient care, and coordinating a system of patient care review through which the medical staff can monitor physician performance and the Credentials Committee can maintain appropriate physician privileges. Furthermore, this role involves directing a medical center-wide Performance Improvement Program, including the establishment of standards of performance, monitoring mechanisms, and outcomes tracking for appropriate medical center departments and the Medical Staff, and communicating relevant summary information to appropriate areas. The Chief Medical Officer and Senior Strategist will also guide and direct the activities of the medical center's Performance Improvement Teams, work with leadership to develop and support the medical center-wide clinical effectiveness agenda, develop relationships with medical center and community physicians to support medical center strategic initiatives, establish short- and long-range objectives for assigned areas, and implement tactical plans for their achievement in collaboration with medical staff and management personnel. Additionally, this role requires active participation and collaboration with the larger CMO team to ensure alignment with strategic initiatives, health outcomes strategies, and high reliability across the medical center and Advocate Health. The successful candidate will also be responsible for performing human resources responsibilities for staff, including interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale. Finally, this role involves developing and recommending operating and capital budgets and controlling expenditures within approved budget objectives, as well as understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and ensuring that personal actions and the actions of employees supervised comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Requirements:
* Doctorate Degree in Medicine
* MD-DO license issued by the state in which the team member practices
* Typically requires 10 years of experience in a clinical field as a practicing physician, including 5 years of leadership experience with medical staff or other physician groups, performance improvement, and quality programs
* Excellent interpersonal communication skills
* Excellent skills in problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, and diplomacy
* Knowledgeable of contemporary practice issues within medicine
* Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate healthcare and medical staff activities
* Familiar with all aspects of hospital operations
* Knowledgeable in information systems and database management
* Dynamic knowledge of outcomes measurement of clinical quality and utilization
