Civil Engineer - Construction Services Project Engineer Job Summary

DLZ Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our Construction Services team in Columbus, Ohio. As a Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for managing multi-discipline engineering projects from planning and procurement through start-up and construction.

You will assist business development efforts, review proposed contracts, and manage inspection and testing personnel on multiple projects. You will also coordinate and schedule activities in the field, resolve problems, and direct the planning and development of project scope, procedures, and budget.

You will ensure contractual commitments are met, maintain effective relationships with team members, and review and approve major change orders. You will also control and review project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates, and reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multi-discipline engineering projects from planning and procurement through start-up and construction.
  • Assist business development efforts.
  • Review proposed contracts to determine significant parameters, time schedules, and mileposts.
  • Manage inspection and testing personnel on multiple projects.
  • Coordinate and schedule activities in the field.
  • Resolve problems and direct the planning and development of project scope, procedures, and budget.
  • Ensure contractual commitments are met.
  • Maintain effective relationships with team members.
  • Review and approve major change orders.
  • Control and review project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates, and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant degree.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
  • Experience managing and inspecting City of Columbus and/or ODOT projects a plus.
  • Experience managing horizontal and/or vertical construction projects, developing CM/CI budgets, creating pay estimates, change orders, etc.
  • Construction materials testing and inspection experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, e-Builder, and LMIS.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to use personal vehicle for job-related work, as needed.
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and comply with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
