Job Summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Materials Scientist to join our team in the Materials Science Department. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for leading research and development activities in the area of polymers and composites, with a focus on composites design, layup, assembly, inspection, characterization, and mechanical testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead research and development activities in the area of polymers and composites
  • Design and execute experiments to characterize the properties of polymers and composites
  • Develop and implement new testing methods and techniques
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate materials science expertise into aerospace systems
  • Communicate research results to technical and non-technical audiences
Requirements
  • PhD in Materials Science or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in materials science research and development
  • Strong background in polymers and composites, including design, fabrication, and testing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with design and execution of polymers and composites mechanical testing
  • Knowledge of polymer structure-property relationships and analytical techniques for polymer characterization
  • Experience with out-of-autoclave and autoclave ovens used for curing pre-preg materials methodologies
