Radiant Industries is a pioneering startup that's revolutionizing the nuclear energy sector with its innovative Kaleidos technology. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in designing and developing cutting-edge hardware systems for our 1MW nuclear microreactor. Your expertise will be pivotal in creating a safer, more efficient, and rapidly deployable nuclear reactor. Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Develop and implement mechanical component designs and subsystems, including the reactor core pressure vessel, internal components, and mechanisms, radiation shielding and thermal insulation, and heat exchangers.
• Conduct thorough trade studies and designs to meet program requirements, ensuring structural integrity and margins of safety.
• Perform detailed thermal and mechanical analysis using hand calculations and finite element tools, such as Femap/NASTRAN or Abaqus.
• Create and manage Bills-of-Materials (BOMs) and oversee manufacturing and assembly instructions, test plans, and risk analysis (FMEA) for subsystems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to collect requirements, provide expertise, and offer constructive feedback, ensuring clear and effective communication.

Requirements & Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical, Materials, Aeronautical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
* 5+ years of experience in conducting trade studies and designing mechanical components or subsystems.
* 5+ years of experience in performing stress analysis using hand calculations and finite element analysis tools (Femap/NASTRAN, Abaqus, or similar).

Desired Qualifications & Skills:

* 5+ years of experience with design of multi-component assemblies in CAD (Solidworks or similar).
* 5+ years of professional experience designing hardware that was manufactured, deployed, and iteratively improved.
* Strong understanding and application of GD&T.
* Proven track record of selecting analysis fidelity and deriving free-body diagram and control volume-based models for systems.
* Experience with CFD analysis (STAR-CCM+ or similar) for combined fluid/thermal modeling of systems and performing fracture analysis using NASGRO/NASFLA.
* Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills and experience with text-based software development tools (Python or similar).
