Comunilife Inc. is seeking an experienced Substance Abuse Counselor for its residential program in Brooklyn, Dona Rosita II Residence.

Job Summary:

The Substance Abuse Counselor will determine the clients' needs for counseling and rehabilitation, conducting assessments, providing individual, group, and family services, and coordinating services with providers within and outside Comunilife.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct initial assessments and reassessments to evaluate physical and mental health behaviors.
  • Develop service plans to identify mutually agreed upon long and short-term recovery-related goals.
  • Evaluate clients' needs based on the substance use harm reduction model and offer harm reduction or coping techniques to reduce clients' risky or highly misused behaviors.
  • Connect clients to outpatient behavioral health and substance abuse outpatient programs, assist in accessing inpatient substance abuse rehabilitation, and assist with adherence to medication regimens.
  • Facilitate individual and group sessions, including harm reduction, double trouble, and recovery model groups.
  • Participate in training, workshops, seminars, and case conferences.
  • Responsible for timely documentation of all activities.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Associates degree and Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) with five (5) years of substance abuse counseling experience.
  • Bachelors degree with CASAC-T and 2 years of experience.
  • Experience with individuals with HIV/AIDS, chronic mental illness, and/or chemical dependence and their families a plus.
  • Bilingual - Spanish, a plus.
