Position Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Dietary Aide to join our Food and Nutritional Services team at Boston Medical Center.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in the preparation, service, and storage of food.
• Cut, plate, and serve food to customers in a timely and efficient manner.
• Portion food according to department standards and supervisor's instructions.
• Assemble food attractively on plates according to department guidelines and direction.
• Handle food to ensure it is maintained at the appropriate temperature according to department standards and direction.
• Notify supervisor of temperature control problems when serving food.
• Demonstrate knowledge of food being served, such as recipes and food identification.
• Label food, accurately and legibly, and place in proper food containers and wraps according to department guidelines.
• Transport and deliver food and supplies properly in order to maintain quality.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Assist in catering events.
• Transport food and supplies in appropriate vehicles or containers to ensure safe and in-tact arrival.
• Deliver food to the proper area within scheduled time frames.
• Maintain safety and sanitation standards of the department to ensure quality food.
• Maintain assigned department area in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner.
• Clean area according to department guidelines after each and prior to starting next assignment.
• Clean thoroughly at end of shift according to established procedure.
• Dispose of trash and obvious clutter as needed to maintain an area according to established procedure.
• Follow established sanitation and safety procedures while performing assignments, including wearing gloves and hair nets and taking precautions to prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.
• Follow established hand washing guidelines.
• Notify supervisor of malfunctioning equipment upon observance.
• Maintain safety and sanitation standards of the department to ensure quality food.
• Operate and use all equipment and supplies in a safe manner according to department standards.
• Record machine temperatures according to established policy.
• Provide clerical support services, including operating the cash register and handling cash transactions.
• Answer phones in a courteous manner, identifying self and department at all times.
• Route telephone orders and messages in an accurate manner in accordance with department procedure.
• Provide general support services, including contributing to the productivity and cost effectiveness of the department.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Related experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Must show courtesy and respect towards customers, patients, and the general public and work harmoniously with a variety of people.
• Knowledge of safe handling procedures, including hand washing hygiene.
• Reasonable speed in performance of duties is required to ensure a positive dining experience for customers.
