Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Disciplinary Hearing Specialist to join our team at Columbus City Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting student discipline hearings, documenting summaries of the hearings, and making recommendations to the Executive Director of Student Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct student discipline hearings and document summaries of the hearings
  • Make recommendations to the Executive Director of Student Services on proper discipline, including suspensions, expulsions, and alternative placements
  • Work cooperatively with the district's legal counsel to share information and discuss issues as appropriate
  • Work collaboratively and communicate with the Office of Special Education to ensure students' educational rights and due process are maintained throughout the disciplinary process
  • Provide assistance and guidance to district administrators regarding student rights and responsibilities under the Guide to Student Success, Board of Education policies, and administrative guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Administration (preferred)
  • Five (5) or more years of teaching or administration in a public-school or similar school system
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of due process, Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines, and procedures
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, orally and in written form, with district administrators, parents, and students
  • Written and computer skills necessary to update student records as part of the student information system
  • Analytical ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of student issues and concerns in a timely manner

Working Conditions:

  • Works in an office setting
  • May require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours
  • Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position
