Job Summary: The Senior Accountant will prepare financial reports to track various business assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. This role is responsible for providing management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts and preparing financial statements for all divisions and territories of the company assigned by the Comptroller.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
  • Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Examples (monthly sales tax returns, professional services deposits and quarterly reconciliation and any other governmental requirements).
  • Analyzes accounts for proper recognitions of accruals, prepaid expenses, subsidiaries of accounts payable, accounts receivable and property ledger.
  • Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability reports.
  • (Gross profit by job, client, or division) Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports.
  • Maintain cost accounting if required by the subsidiary.
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Protects organizations value by keeping information confidential.

Requirements:

  • Strong Excel skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint and Word)
  • Excellent Oral and verbal communications skills (English and Spanish)
  • Excellent analytical skills, sound understanding of accounting principles.
  • Attention to detail and data entry skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required
  • Five years + of accounting experience required

Special Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
  • Highly proficient with accounting software
