Job Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician provides clinical support to the Ophthalmology department at Boston Children's Hospital. This role involves preparing clinical rooms, stocking equipment and medication, and ensuring proper storage. The successful candidate will work within the BCH system to deliver and pick up supplies as needed, and will assist with procedures as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare clinical rooms and stock equipment and medication
  • Work within the BCH system to deliver and pick up supplies
  • Assist with procedures as required
  • Ensure patient flow and pertinent documents are prepared, organized, and communicated effectively
  • Assist with regulatory compliance, including Joint Commission
  • Gather quotes for equipment purchases and arrange equipment repairs
  • Take external, slit lamp, and ocular fundus photographs, and edit and upload photos to the patient's medical record
  • Measure and record visual fields with automated perimeter, instill eye drops, and measure intraocular pressures
  • Scan and organize computerized patient records/images, and provide phone and scheduling support

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Current registration as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA certification) preferred
  • Experience in a clinical or science-related field preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Computer and research skills for tasks of word processing and data coordination
