Position Summary

The full-time Bookseller plays a key role in upholding The Bookmark's customer-centric culture. This individual supports daily store operations in a cozy yet fast-paced environment, offering friendly and attentive service while maintaining a clean, organized, and inspiring space for readers.

The Bookseller is responsible for shelving inventory following established guidelines, ensuring product availability, and developing (or being eager to develop) strong knowledge across all bookstore categories—from children's and young adult to fiction, non-fiction, inspirational, biographies, local authors, and reference.

Key Responsibilities

*Customer Experience*

* Welcome customers warmly and engage them in a friendly, helpful, and professional manner.
* Provide tailored book recommendations based on customer interests and trends.
* Guide customers through various sections of the store and answer questions with accuracy and enthusiasm.
* Maintain a positive, approachable demeanor that reflects our commitment to a cozy and inclusive environment.

*Merchandising & Inventory*

* Stock and replenish shelves following store guidelines, category layouts, and visual presentation standards.
* Maintain store organization: straighten shelves, return misplaced items, and ensure displays remain clean, attractive, and up to date.
* Assist with receiving, tagging, processing, and organizing new inventory.
* Monitor product levels and communicate low-stock or fast-moving titles to the team.

*Product Knowledge*

* Develop knowledge of a broad range of genres, trends, and new releases.
* Stay up to date on bestselling titles, anticipated launches, and local authors relevant to our audience.
* Participate in ongoing learning about book categories, store systems, and customer preferences.

*Operations*

* Operate the POS system accurately for purchases, returns, and special orders.
* Support store events and other activities as needed to ensure smooth operations.
* Help maintain a clean and comfortable store environment at all times.
* Follow all operational protocols, including opening/closing procedures.

Qualifications

* Prior retail or customer service experience preferred; bookstore experience is a plus but not required.
* Genuine interest in books and reading across multiple genres.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, multitasking environment while maintaining warmth and professionalism.
* Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with customers of all ages.
* Reliability, punctuality, and a proactive attitude.
* Ability to lift and move boxes (typically * lbs.) and stand for extended periods.

The store experiences both relaxed periods and busy shopping hours, particularly during weekends, holidays, new releases, and special events.

Schedule

Full-time position, including weekends, holidays, and evening shifts as needed.
