Role Description The Litigation Federal Attorney (Puerto Rico) will manage and oversee federal litigation matters related to the firm’s investment advisory and financial services activities. This contract role is hybrid, based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with a combination of on-site work at the firm’s office and some work-from-home flexibility. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting and reviewing pleadings, motions, briefs, and regulatory responses; conducting legal research on federal securities, commodities, and investment advisory laws; and advising internal stakeholders on litigation risk and compliance considerations. The attorney will coordinate with external counsel when needed, prepare for hearings and conferences, assist with discovery and document review, and help develop strategies to mitigate legal exposure. The role also involves close collaboration with compliance and operations teams to ensure that litigation positions align with regulatory obligations and firm policies. Qualifications
• Licensed attorney in good standing, with admission to practice before the U.
S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico (and preferably the First Circuit Court of Appeals).
• Demonstrated experience in federal litigation, including drafting pleadings and motions, managing discovery, and appearing in court or supporting trial teams.
• Strong knowledge of securities and investment advisory regulation (e.g., SEC, FINRA, CFTC, NFA, OCIF rules) and familiarity with financial services or asset management environments.
• Exceptional legal research, analytical, and writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, well-reasoned memoranda, briefs, and client communications.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid setting in San Juan, collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage multiple matters simultaneously, and meet strict deadlines.
• High ethical standards, sound professional judgment, and commitment to regulatory compliance, confidentiality, and risk management.
• Fluency in English required; proficiency in Spanish strongly preferred for work in Puerto Rico federal and local contexts.
