San Juan, Puerto Rico Trexin Consulting Jornada completa
Trexin Consulting helps large, complex organizations turn strategy into results that hold up in the real world. With 20+ years of enterprise delivery, our senior practitioners work inside regulated industries, including healthcare, where security, accuracy, and accountability are non-negotiable. Trexin is seeking a SQL Developer to join a Client engagement with a healthcare technology organization in Puerto Rico. This is a 4 to 6 month contract, with extension possible, starting as soon as possible. The consultant will backfill a departing team member and own day-to-day SQL Server development: maintaining and tuning stored procedures, running ETL processes, and administering database security and permissions. The Client's senior SQL developers lead the more complex design work, and this role works alongside them. The work touches production environments that contain protected health information (PHI). Key Areas of Responsibility
• Write, modularize, and maintain T-SQL stored procedures, functions, and views that hold business logic in Microsoft SQL Server.
• Tune underperforming queries and procedures: read execution plans, rewrite inefficient logic, replace cursors and row-by-row processing with set-based logic, and use Common Table Expressions (CTEs) and indexing appropriately.
• Build, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages and T-SQL scripts that move data between staging and production environments.
• Ingest large datasets efficiently using BCP (Bulk Copy Program) and BULK INSERT, including validation of loaded data and handling of load errors.
• Monitor scheduled jobs and ETL runs, resolve failures, and document root cause and fixes.
• Provision SQL logins and database users and assign them to standard roles such as db_datareader and db_datawriter.
• Grant and revoke explicit EXECUTE, SELECT, and UPDATE permissions on schemas, tables, and stored procedures to maintain the principle of least privilege, and support periodic access reviews.
• Follow change management, code review, and deployment controls for every production change, including testing in lower environments and documented rollback steps.
• Handle PHI in line with HIPAA and Client security policies, applying the minimum necessary standard to data access, queries, and extracts.
• Escalate complex design, architecture, and performance issues to the Client's senior SQL developers and collaborate on solutions.
• Keep clear documentation of procedures, packages, and permission changes to support continuity and handoff. Key Desired Skills, Experience and Knowledge
• 3+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL) development in production environments.
• Strong experience writing and performance tuning stored procedures, including execution plan analysis and set-based rewrites.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining SSIS packages.
• Experience loading large data volumes with BCP and BULK INSERT.
• Working knowledge of SQL Server security: logins, users, database roles, and schema and object permissions.
• Experience with SQL Server Agent jobs and source control (Git or Azure DevOps).
• Experience working with PHI or other regulated data, and working knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
• Disciplined approach to production work: change control, testing, and careful, documented execution.
• Ability to ramp up quickly on an existing codebase and work independently with minimal oversight.
• Clear written and verbal communication in English; Spanish is a plus.
• Healthcare, pharmacy benefit, or health plan data experience is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
