Creciendo En Salud

(Acción Social de Puerto Rico, Inc.) will engage (10) AmeriCorps members who will carry out (coordination and distribution of food backpacks, facilitation of health and nutrition workshops, and development of emotional well-being and socialization activities) in (low-income communities in Puerto Rico, including municipalities such as Aibonito, Adjuntas, Aguada, Arroyo, Barranquitas, Cabo Rojo, Ciales, Ceiba, Comerío, Corozal, Culebra, Florida, Guánica, Guayama, Guayanilla, Hormigueros, Juana Díaz, Lares, Lajas, Loíza, Maunabo, Maricao, Mayagüez, Moca, Morovis, Peñuelas, Patillas, Río Grande, San Germán, San Sebastián, Utuado, Yabucoa, Yauco, among others). At the end of the project year, it is expected that AmeriCorps members will have (improved access to nutritious food for at least 870 children and 230 older adults in low-income communities, increased knowledge of healthy habits among 60% of participants, and strengthened the emotional well-being of beneficiaries through socialization and community support activities, with 70% of participants reporting a reduction in social isolation). Additionally, AmeriCorps members will mobilize (50 volunteers) to participate in (health fairs, healthy food distribution, and support for wellness promotion activities). This project, Growing in Health, will serve under the following focus area: (Healthy Futures). The AmeriCorps investment of ($175,**) will be matched with ($55,**), including ($0.00) in public funds and ($55,**) in private funds.

Member Duties : Organize the monthly logistics of food distribution in coordination with the Food Bank and other partner entities. Pack backpacks with non-perishable foods (rice, beans, pasta, canned goods) and nutritional educational materials. Distribute food directly to children and older adults at community centers or in their homes. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers. Coordinate and facilitate educational workshops on healthy eating, prevention of chronic diseases, and stress management. Conduct cooking demonstrations with simple and accessible recipes. Deliver dynamic educational sessions tailored to older adults and children. Facilitate support groups for older adults focused on emotional health, assertive communication, and reducing social isolation. Organize recreational, sports, cultural, and artistic activities for children and older adults. Plan intergenerational activities (e.g., themed celebrations, excursions) that promote interaction across generations.
