Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Records Clerk to join our team at Sutter Health. As a key member of our medical records department, you will be responsible for providing coverage for various clerical positions, including release of information, telephone coverage, and chart management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage for release of information following departmental HIPPA guidelines.
  • Provide rotating backup coverage for telephones as assigned, answering phones within 3 rings and identifying yourself and department.
  • Pull charts as needed for committees, studies, and special requests, using chart locator for each record removed from file and labeling pulled records for easy location.
  • Research daily new medical record number assigned list for duplicate number assignment and consolidate medical record numbers in computer system.
  • Correct paper records as required and log in duplicate numbers in control book.
  • Pull incomplete records for physicians and maintain a 95% pull rate, initials and dates each pull sheet.
  • Attend weekly clinical conference, interdisciplinary treatment planning meetings, and family conference to communicate pertinent information regarding patient's health needs.
  • Provide coverage on census desk, assembly, analysis, and reanalysis, and provide transcription clerical coverage as needed.
  • Perform audits/departmental quality reviews of clerical processes and participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Complete birth certificates using Avis computer system and review and complete hazardous form annually.

Requirements
  • Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience.
  • 1-2 years recent experience in hospital medical records department with competence in various clerical positions.
