Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Material Handler 1st to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our warehouse operations, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently utilizing warehouse material handling equipment to build pallets of product for shipment, receive product into the warehouse, put away product in the fill locations, and replenish product into slots.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely operate warehouse material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks
  • Build stable and accurate pallet loads for shipment
  • Ensure item pick accuracy and safety of product to prevent damage
  • Utilize warehouse processes to minimize damage and other areas of waste
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers to ensure smooth operations
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Minimum of 3 full months of documented experience as a certified forklift/heavy lift driver
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Previous experience in a warehouse or with heavy lifting preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds continually during shift
Work Environment

The work environment will include extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical equipment, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
