We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Research Scientist, you will play a key role in developing innovative solutions for advanced microwave devices, materials, and systems.



Responsibilities


  • Design, prototype, and fabricate novel surfaces, structures, and materials for manipulating RF fields
  • Perform anechoic chamber measurements and devise RF testbeds to characterize the performance of electromagnetic prototypes
  • Analyze data and propose design refinements
  • Advance independent research and development ideas
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of physicists, engineers, and fabrication technicians


Qualifications


  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields
  • Strong background in electromagnetics, microwave circuits, and RF electronics
  • Proficiency in using a full-wave electromagnetic simulation package such as CST or COMSOL
  • 1+ year working experience in configuring and operating typical RF hardware equipment
  • Working knowledge of or interest in learning the procedures and protocols pertaining to the fabrication of engineered electromagnetic surfaces
  • Ability to write scientific programs in MATLAB or PYTHON


Eligibility Requirements


  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in printed circuit board layout and fabrication
  • Interest in building systems with RF components
  • Previous contribution to the design of electromagnetic metasurfaces or reconfigurable intelligent surfaces
  • Broad exposure to common RF applications
