We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Blood Bank team at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to blood banking, including specimen testing, transfusion medicine, and quality control.
Key Responsibilities- Perform all tasks required for blood banking, including specimen testing, transfusion medicine, and quality control.
- Select products for transfusion to minimize wastage and ensure accurate test results.
- Interact professionally with other departments to receive orders, respond to developing situations, and seek technical guidance from senior technologists when appropriate.
- Manage the Coordinating Area in the absence of a Senior Technologist or when assigned.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and operate Blood Bank instrumentation efficiently.
- Perform QC and equipment maintenance, and share responsibility for answering alarms and responding appropriately.
- Comply with cGMPs to manufacture components and ensure accurate disposition of all products from the Component Lab.
- Participate in projects to enhance the Blood Bank and work independently towards completing projects within the assigned timeline.
- Ensure ongoing training and increasing knowledge of different areas within the Blood Bank.
- Requires Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science.
- MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent certification.
- Successful completion of the hospital's Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment.
- Unescorted access to the Blood Bank Irradiators is a requirement of the position.
