Job Summary:
The Associate Director will play a key role in the development and implementation of academic programs at UMass Boston. This position will be responsible for curriculum development, student recruitment and selection, staff supervision, and program operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education, counseling, or a related field, and experience working in a higher education setting.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement program curricula and courses offerings
- Recruit, select, onboard, train, and supervise instructional staff
- Direct student recruitment and selection process
- Manage program admission process
- Assist with program operations, including staff supervision and safety and welfare of students
- Teach a summer course
- Provide academic, career, and personal counseling to participants
- Meet regularly with a caseload of program participants to provide guidance and support
- Plan and facilitate monthly cohort meetings and academic enrichment, career, service learning/community service, leadership, and cultural field trips and activities
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or a closely related field
- Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or a closely related field preferred
- Minimum of three-five years of professional administrative experience within a primary, secondary school or post-secondary institution
- Demonstrated experience with academic and/or college counseling skills
- Motor vehicle driver's license preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with multi-ethnic, multi-racial population
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with low-income, first-generation urban students, including English Learners (ELs), and their families
- Knowledge of and experience working with the Boston Public Schools or similar urban district
- Bilingual in Vietnamese, Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole or Haitian Creole
