Job Summary

Are you an experienced mechanical engineer with a passion for designing and developing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)? We are seeking a UAV Robotics Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems for UAVs using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and technicians to lead hands-on projects.
  • Analyze and test complex mechanical systems to ensure they meet performance requirements.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and integrate hardware onto experimental and prototype UAV systems.
  • Develop test plans, conduct tests, and prepare technical documentation of test results.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience designing, fabricating, integrating, testing, and/or operating UAV airframes.
  • Experience with CAD software and understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups to meet deadlines and deliver results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
  • Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Experience with integrating, tuning, and operating open-source UAV autopilot firmware.
