Job Summary:
The Patient Care Technician role at Mymichigan Health is a vital position that requires a compassionate and detail-oriented individual to provide observation and support to patients who require close monitoring. This role is ideal for qualified nursing students or individuals with relevant certifications.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Patient Care Technician, you will be responsible for standing by during patient ambulation, accompanying patients to other departments, and assisting with tasks that do not require the attention of a Registered Nurse or Care Assistant. You will also maintain a calm and safe environment, follow safety precautions, and maintain confidentiality.
Documentation and Communication:
Accurate and timely documentation of observations is crucial in this role. You will document observations as directed by the Registered Nurse and immediately communicate significant information to the RN, such as changes in the patient's behavior or condition.
Certifications and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will require BLS - Basic Life Support certification and equivalent experience within one month of hire. You may also hold an internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or have completed one semester of nursing clinical education by an Accredited Registered Nurse Program.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
This role requires occasional lifting or carrying of 21-50lbs, frequent walking and standing, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You will be required to follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing protocols.
Additional Requirements:
You will need to be able to work independently, have good organizational skills, and be a team player. You will also require computer experience and be able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups at all levels.
