Chewy is seeking an experienced Associate Director, Data Science to join our FC Science team in Boston, MA, or Minneapolis, MN. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for building and leading a team of Data Scientists, Research Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and Software Engineers to drive innovation in our fulfillment operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Data Scientists to develop and implement models and algorithms to solve complex fulfillment problems using operations research, statistics, and machine learning technologies.
  • Develop and implement artificial intelligence and/or machine learning methods to design, test, and scale effective, reliable frameworks, systems, and models to improve the usefulness of big data and predictive applications.
  • Work with Data/Research Scientists, Robotics/Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Operations Leaders to develop and support new data science software products.
  • Communicate research findings and technical insights to business customers of varying technical backgrounds, providing clear recommendations and educating stakeholders.
  • Implement process improvement initiatives that drive improvements to the metrics and streamline operations.

Requirements:

  • An advanced degree (undergraduate, M.S. or equivalent experience) in Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or equivalent quantitative fields such as Engineering, Computer Science with a background in machine learning.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in developing and deploying optimization, predictive, and machine learning models.
  • 3+ years of experience in leading and managing operations research, data science, or advanced analytics teams.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring team of scientists.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain details of complex concepts to non-expert customers in a simple and understandable way.
  • Experience coding and analyzing data using Python, SQL, or R.
  • Extensive experience working with Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Linear Programming, and ML models.
  • Experience with frameworks such as Pytorch, TensorFlow, or Keras.
  • Bonus: Experience with Amazon Web Services tools such as SageMaker or other similar platforms.
  • Experience of translating ambiguous customer requirements into clear problem definitions and delivering them.
  • Experience with Fulfillment, Robotics, or Computer Vision systems.
