Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate School Social Worker to join our team at Wayne County Schools Employment Network. As a School Social Worker, you will play a critical role in supporting students who are in crisis, helping them navigate government funds and treatment options, and advocating on their behalf when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide casework services to individual students to address personal, social, or emotional maladjustments that impact their educational and social progress.
• Collaborate with parents to increase their understanding and participation in resolving their child's problems.
• Consult with other school personnel to gather and share information on student cases and develop plans to modify behavior.
• Make referrals to outside agencies and serve as a liaison between home and school.
• Assist students in adjusting to school and maintain records of cases for use by school staff and outside agencies.

Requirements:

• Master's Degree from a graduate school of social work program approved by the state board of education.
• Full approval from Michigan Department of Education.
• A minimum of 500 clock hours of supervised social work practicum.
• Previous recommendation for temporary approval from an approved university school of social work training program.
• Patience, resilience, and ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
• Initiative and flexibility to adapt to new roles, tasks, and situations.
• Strong observation, analytical, and listening skills.
• Capacity to absorb legal/procedural information.
• Ability to negotiate, mediate, and interpret on behalf of students.
