Job Summary: We are seeking an Electronics Manufacturing Specialist to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and fabricating complex electronic assemblies for critical national programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electronics manufacturing and experience working in a high mix, low volume SMT facility.

The Electronics Manufacturing Specialist will serve as the manufacturing expert for a team of engineers, responsible for developing process plans and technical capabilities to build hardware for space and military missions. This includes designing assembly workflows, adjusting current workflows to meet sponsor requirements, and working with vendors to fabricate assemblies. The candidate will also be responsible for performing analyses to ensure that the hardware meets the sponsor's requirements, recommending new materials and processes to improve performance, quality, cost, and schedule, and maintaining or assisting with the maintenance, calibration, and repairs of electronic assembly tools and equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a BS degree in a technical field, such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, and at least 3 years of experience in an electronics manufacturing environment. Experience working with microelectronic assemblies and providing guidance and process improvements is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be able to work in a collaborative environment, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously. A passion to learn and improve self and processes is essential. The candidate must also be willing and able to work in a Class 8 Cleanroom and travel inside the US for up to 5% of their time.

Responsibilities:
• Serve as the manufacturing expert for a team of engineers
• Develop process plans and technical capabilities to build hardware for space and military missions
• Design assembly workflows and adjust current workflows to meet sponsor requirements
• Work with vendors to fabricate assemblies
• Perform analyses to ensure that the hardware meets the sponsor's requirements
• Recommend new materials and processes to improve performance, quality, cost, and schedule
• Maintain or assist with the maintenance, calibration, and repairs of electronic assembly tools and equipment
• Guide and develop fabrication technicians in the electronic and microelectronic assembly areas
• Program and/or develop process parameters for automated electronic assembly tools and equipment

Qualifications:
• BS degree in a technical field, such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
• At least 3 years of experience in an electronics manufacturing environment
• Experience working with microelectronic assemblies and providing guidance and process improvements is highly desirable
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Passion to learn and improve self and processes is essential
• Willing and able to work in a Class 8 Cleanroom and travel inside the US for up to 5% of their time
