Job Title: Senior Aeromechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Aeromechanical Engineer to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for evaluating contractor designs, performing trade studies, and conducting performance assessments of advanced flight vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate contractor designs and perform trade studies to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Conduct performance assessments of advanced flight vehicles to identify areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to advise government and industry partners on aeromechanical engineering challenges and design trades
  • Conduct engineering analysis, design, and performance of missile systems and reentry bodies
  • Participate in test and evaluation activities, including test operations and pre/post flight evaluations
  • Produce reports and presentations to communicate findings to team members and government partners
Qualifications:
  • M.S. in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in a missile or reentry system engineering discipline, such as modeling and simulation, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, or hypersonic reentry
  • Knowledge and relevant experience with aerodynamic performance, flight dynamics, and/or subsystem performance, with a focus on aeromechanical engineering
  • Strong computer experience and programming skills, including MATLAB
  • Ability to interact effectively with colleagues of different experience levels and backgrounds, including industry and military personnel
  • Comfortable working in closed area facilities
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to obtain an interim Secret security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in a missile or reentry system engineering discipline, such as modeling and simulation, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, or hypersonic reentry
  • Experience programming in Simulink or 6DOF simulation development
  • Design or evaluation experience for related missile, reentry body, or advanced flight systems
  • Currently hold an active Top Secret Clearance
