Job Title: Spacecraft Power Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Spacecraft Power Systems Engineer to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Space Exploration Sector, you will play a critical role in designing, testing, and delivering reliable spacecraft power systems for APL's space sector and broader space community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of power systems for spacecraft, including conceptual design studies, mission proposals, and subsystem and hardware component requirements.
  • Develop and implement test plans to verify power system performance and ensure compliance with mission requirements.
  • Estimate battery capacities, solar array sizes, and predict system performance to ensure efficient and reliable power delivery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate power systems onto spacecraft and support launch and flight operations.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in power electronics and spacecraft power systems to ensure our solutions are cutting-edge and effective.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 7-15 years of experience developing spacecraft power systems, with a strong background in power electronics and system design.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret level security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience designing primary power regulation or distribution hardware.
  • Experience with primary battery technologies.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary electronics development teams.
  • Experience with alternative spacecraft power sources, such as nuclear sources.
