Cytogenetics Specialist

The Cytogenetics Technologist position at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is responsible for performing complete chromosomal analysis and/or FISH analysis using high resolution microscopes and a digital imaging system. This role requires a strong understanding of cytogenetics and molecular biology principles, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Perform chromosomal analysis and/or FISH analysis on blood, bone marrow, and solid tumor specimens
• Use high resolution microscopes and a digital imaging system to examine specimens
• Conduct quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure accurate results
• Collaborate with laboratory staff and clinicians to provide accurate and timely results
• Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with new technologies and techniques

• Bachelor's degree in a biological science or a certified cytogenetics degree program
• MT (ASCP) certification or Bachelor's degree in a certified cytogenetics degree program
• Post-degree experience in a cytogenetics lab setting and experience in cancer cytogenetic analysis desired
• Certification as CG (ASCP) required within 2 years of start date

This position requires working in a fast-paced laboratory environment with varying hours and holidays. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
