Job Summary

A-dec is seeking a highly skilled Machinist II to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for operating multiple moderately complex machinery and CNC machining centers for production parts and moderate to complex fabrication tasks within assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate multiple machines, including manual lathes and mills, CNC lathes and mills, machining centers, and Automatic Lathes in assigned areas with limited supervision.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning.
  • Troubleshoot moderate equipment problems and request service or repairs as needed.
  • Read and interpret work orders and adjust equipment and materials to match.
  • Inspect personal production to achieve and maintain quality standards and may make recommendations for improvement.
  • Helps with rework and teaches others on how to reduce scrap.
  • Actively engages and participates in department continuous improvement efforts to support and implement improvements to processes, programs, tooling, and fixturing.
  • Works collaboratively within the team to maintain a neat and organized work station.
  • Achieves and maintains productivity standards, follows all safety guidelines, and maintains acceptable dependability level.
  • Understands and completes documentation needed to comply with policies and procedures that are appropriate for the position.
  • Effectively interprets production, learning to predict flow and is proactive to keep personal production line/area operating at a high level and may coach others.
  • Versatile in operating major equipment centers with key machinery supported by secondary machines and operations.
  • Works with Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians to provide input to assist with resolving quality concerns and improve existing processes.
  • Follows safety guidelines, must not pose a risk to self or others, identifies potential safety hazards and initiates corrective action when necessary.
  • Actively participates in all department, quarterly, and company meetings.
  • Train and mentor less experienced machinists and machine operators how to perform tasks related to manual lathes, mills, and CNC machining centers.

Requirements

  • Generally requires a 3-5 years machinist experience and knowledge of developing methods to machine first-run prototypes, set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of multiple CNC machining centers, Automatic Lathes, and manual mills and lathes, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English with demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions and troubleshoot problems when necessary.
  • Actively participate in a pass down communication to other shift peers and leadership.
  • Must be able to fulfill the minimum qualifications of Machine Operator I, II and Machinist I.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively inspect assigned work and the work of others with precision measuring equipment, which may include micrometers, bore gages, manual or video comparators, CMM, or special equipment as required allowing for mobility within the department and train others.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage time and resources effectively.
  • Demonstrates behaviors and attitudes that emphasize and focus on permanent resolutions to problems and collaboratively work with other employees within work group to achieve goals.
  • Knowledge of all tooling and material types used during production, including uncommon and unconventional tools, with the ability to alter tools to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints with a proficient knowledge of GD&T.
  • Continuous improvement skills for basic production and fabrication, including manual lathes, mills, and CNC machining centers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of ISO procedures.
  • Ability to perform math calculations with an understanding of decimal/fraction equivalence, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Moderate computer skills and ability to learn and understand ERP systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively.
  • Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift.
  • Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection and comply with OSHA's respirator use requirements.
