Role Summary: We are seeking a skilled EEG Technologist to perform standard electroencephalographic examinations on both outpatients and inpatients. This role involves test setup, electrode application, conducting tests, and collecting data for interpretation. The incumbent will work under indirect supervision of the Chief Technologist and may perform clerical/administrative duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greets patients, explains examination procedures, and performs tests in the laboratory, at the patient bedside, in an intensive care unit, or in the emergency room.
- Selects standard and special electrode combinations (montages) and measures patient's head using the international 10-20 system.
- Operates EEG equipment to record procedures, monitors recordings, and makes pertinent notations of the clinical state of the patient.
- Obtains standard recordings, recognizes artifacts, and takes steps to eliminate them. Uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep.
- Abstracts relevant information from the patient's clinical record, obtains additional information through patient interviews, and writes technical reports.
- Accurately enters patient data into a reporting system computer terminal and retrieves and reviews previous tests/recordings as needed for comparison.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, cleans, and performs minor repairs on EEG equipment and reports need for major repairs to supervisor.
- Helps maintain laboratory inventory and keeps the laboratory in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Attends departmental staff and in-service meetings as required and follows all established departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications: Graduation from an EEG training program or Associates Degree program, six months or more experience working in a patient care environment, and eligibility for ABRET certification within 2 years from date of hire.
Working Conditions: The EEG Technologist will work in a variety of settings, including the EEG laboratory, patient bedside, intensive care unit, and emergency room, and may be required to work on-call, off-shift, and weekends.
