Job Title: Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs

Harvard Medical School (HMS) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs. This is a full-time staff position within the Office for Faculty Affairs (OFA), responsible for the strategic leadership, oversight, planning, and implementation for the Faculty of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in and oversight of all professorial processes related to faculty recruitment, appointments, and promotion for the Faculty of Medicine.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support faculty development and engagement.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, faculty, and administrators to assess needs, align priorities, and implement policies in a large, decentralized institution.
  • Provide excellent interpersonal skills, including responsiveness in communication, diplomacy, and openness to diverse perspectives.
  • Manage sensitive situations and confidential information with high ethical standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, and external partners to advance the mission of HMS.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant experience as a senior administrative leader in higher education.
  • Background in basic science, translational, and/or clinical research strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in academic affairs, with prior supervisory experience of staff highly preferred.
