Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Tech II to join our team at Kaiser Permanente in Baldwin Park, California. As a Sterile Processing Tech II, you will be responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical/surgical equipment and supplies in accordance with CDC, OSHA, EPA, AAMI, Title 22, APIC, SGNA, and JC guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Filling orders from requesting departments
- Making equipment rounds and returning soiled equipment to SPD; cleaning equipment per manufacturers' recommendations and validating functionality prior to storage
- Validating PM status on equipment issued from and returned to SPD per department policy
- Answering phones
- Inventorying and restocking supplies, and specialty carts per department policy
- Ordering specialty beds and other patient equipment per medical center practice
- Disassembling, cleaning, or decontaminating surgical instruments per manufacturers' recommendations, including ultrasonic cleaning
- Assembling, inspecting, testing, wrapping, and dating all OR sets, including specialty sets per department protocol according to manufacturers' recommendations
- Operating all equipment in the Sterile Processing Department, including steam sterilizers, plasma sterilizers, automated endoscope reprocessors, biological incubators, heat sealers, instrument and cart washers
- Using instrument and equipment tracking systems in all areas of the Sterile Processing Department, including documentation of tests and sterilizer records
- Examining and maintaining the integrity of sterile packages
- Preparing OR case carts according to preference cards on all surgical procedures
- Promoting, ensuring, and improving customer service to internal and external customers
- Able to work in a collaborative environment
- Performing other related duties as assigned within the scope of training and service
Requirements:
- Two (2) years recent experience as a Sterile Processing Technician working in a Sterile Processing Department in an acute hospital or a Surgical Technician with two (2) years recent experience working in a Sterile Processing Department in an acute hospital
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
- Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Program including 400 clinical hours or a Surgical Technician program
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification or Registered Central Service Technician Certificate or Surgical Technologist Certificate
