CREW CHIEF

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Primary Areas of Focus
Client Relations Mentor Survey Teams Customer Service Data Management Safety Core Responsibilities Mentor and develop others on the use of survey equipment and new or alternate technologies. Mentor and develop others on survey fieldwork techniques, practices, and standards. Lead survey field crew in performing boundary, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, and construction Often requires helping other crews, responding to last-minute requests, and working extra hours when necessary. Ability to effectively recognize, troubleshoot, and resolve unforeseen complications independently, resolve any complex issues in the field, and notify the Project Surveyor when necessary. Provide exceptional customer service and build strong relationships with team and clients. Advance knowledge of all required safety procedures and practices. Wear appropriate clothing and adheres to site-specific PPE or OSHA requirements. Manage instrument operators, including performance management, career development, work/life balance, psychological safety, and personal development. Assist Project Manager in completing performance reviews for Instrument Operators and take corrective action when necessary (safety is priority one). Demonstrate advanced knowledge of equipment and data management. Assist with onboarding and technical training of new instrument operators. Responsible for paying close attention to schedules and budgets and reporting any issues to the Project Surveyor and Project Manager. Maintain company vehicles, including performance, preventative maintenance, and cleaning. Collect information, maps, data, photographs, records, etc. to thoroughly understand the project scope and execute survey tasks with minimal direction. Participate in standards and procedures creation. Responsible for the accuracy of field data and performing any checks before leaving the site. Download data collector and review and approve files. Able to read and interpret field data, surveys, architectural and engineering plans, and legal descriptions independently. Ability to effectively recognize, troubleshoot, and resolve unforeseen complications independently and resolve any complex issues in the field. Communicate with internal and external project teams. Willing to work in all weather and site conditions. Willing to be flexible with schedule, understanding that some days may require longer hours to complete a project, and some days will be shorter due to weather or workload. Responsible for individual and crew time management to ensure on-time arrival at projects and completing jobs in the allotted time to avoid multiple trips to a site. Understand and follow company practices and processes to perform tasks on time and within budget. Responsibility to meet project task targets and for completing projects on time. Interact with team, clients, and vendors professionally, care for the EPS Group brand and culture. Responsible for completing timecards accurately and on time. Skills & Experience High School Diploma or GED preferred, associate or bachelor's degree in surveying or related field preferred. LSIT or CST III or ability to obtain within one year. Minimum of two-years of experience in survey. Refer to skill matrix for technical requirements for I-II-III positions. Ability to operate survey field equipment. Valid driver's license and automobile insurance preferred. Physical Requirements Required to stand, walk, and sit. Able to sit for an extended period while in The nature of the position is outdoor work, ranging from extreme heat to below freezing temperatures and the potential for uneven terrain. The position requires a normal range of hearing. The employee must be able to lift 50 frequently. Requires prolonged standing with a significant amount of time spent bending, squatting, and reaching. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator. Noise levels vary from ambient outdoor levels to those requiring ear protection. Ability to perform physical labor (i.e., strenuous walking, lifting, and hauling equipment) frequently.
