ROLE OVERVIEW We're seeking an Experienced Data Scientist to join the highly-matrixed Data Analytics and Science team at Benchling. Our team is a blend of data science and analytical engineering, and in this role, you'll collaborate closely with the Head of Product Analytics and Data Science. Your focus will be on building centralized data models and analytical assets to support both our Build functions (Engineering, Product Management, Strategy) and go-to-market (GTM) efforts.
As a lead data scientist, you'll design efficient data models, prototype outcome-driven analytical tools, and provide strategic, data-backed recommendations. You'll partner with various teams across Benchling, gaining insight into the full business lifecycle.
Success in this role requires autonomy, the ability to tackle unstructured and ambiguous challenges, and a talent for providing thought leadership across teams. We're looking for a generalist with strong expertise in data modeling (SQL, Python), ETL processes, and a solid product sense. If you're also a humble culture-builder, we want you on our team.
RESPONSIBILITIES Partner with the Head of Product Analytics and Data Science to codify and execute the analytics strategy and roadmap. Collaborate with product and enterprise business leaders to define and prioritize data reporting needs. Identify trends in customer success with the Benchling product suite and develop algorithmic recommendations to mitigate customer pain points. Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) that align with Benchling's value proposition and measure customer satisfaction. Serve as a key liaison between Build and enterprise teams to ensure alignment and integration of insights. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 5 years of experience as a data scientist or in a similar role, with a focus on building data models and prototyping success metrics in SaaS/b2b production environments. Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases, along with familiarity with Snowflake, DBT, and/or GitHub for investigating data issues. Proficiency in data science scripting languages (Python preferred) and building data science algorithms on top of Snowflake data models. Strong knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL processes. Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Mode or Looker. Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and actionable insights, while leveraging project management tools to successfully deliver data projects. SALARY RANGE Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay. The candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and work location. For this role the base salary range is $159,000 to $216,000.
