Summary:

Provides Environmental Heath and Safety (EHS) support to the team, Operations and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS).

Essential Functions:

Provides EHS support to the department as well as Processing, Pharmaceutics Process Technology (PPT), Project Management and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS) Laboratory Incident investigations Audit finding responses and closures Risk assessments Department specific training Client & auditor support Provides Environmental Support Ships dangerous goods following the regulations and provide guidance to employees Manages hazardous / non-hazardous waste management program Manages wastewater discharge program ensuring compliance with Sewer Use By-Law Manages raw and potable water systems ensuring compliance with Conducts field sampling at specific locations as required by regulatory permits.  Actively participate in agencies, clients and corporate audits and audit readiness. Monitor and track the environmental permits, regulatory reports tracking and regulatory inspections and audit responses. Prepare regulatory reports per compliance calendar. Provides Safety Support Conducts equipment, facility, product reviews Coordinates pre-start health and safety review completion Develops safety programs such as lock out and machine guarding Provides Industrial Hygiene (IH) Support Assist with IH assessments on existing products and evaluate technologies to improve containment. Makes recommendations for improving containment, engineering controls etc., where necessary Participates in work-teams to evaluate containment of existing processes and implement containment plans. Develops and Implements EHS Programs Safety examples: Equipment and process safety reviews Industrial hygiene examples: respiratory protection, noise and air sampling Environmental programs such as: Air, Water, Waste Develops audit protocols, audit programs, procedures, and practices for the EHS Programs Develops and conducts EHS training Orientation training Monthly safety talks Department specific training New Project Risk Assessments Attends Kick-Off Meetings and ongoing Project Meetings Evaluates containment/industrial hygiene for new projects Potent Compound active-specific procedures and training Liaises with Project Managers, Process Engineers and Clients Completes and/or assists with special EHS Projects Provides guidance, back-up and support to other EHS team members and Health Centre. Supports Respiratory Protection Program and Fit Testing Reviews and updates the respiratory protection program, as necessary. Implements respirators inspection, maintenance, and testing programs, as necessary. Coordinate and/or Conducts respirator fit testing for employees and clients Assists in selection and use of respiratory protection, protective clothing, hearing protection and safety glasses. Provide EHS support to alternating or rotating shift work (as required)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

in Environment, Safety, Health, Science, Engineering or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum 3+ years in an EHS role Knowledge in EHS regulations. Industrial Hygiene training / experience Experience in chemical, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical environment.

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Able to work in a fast-paced team environment. Previous experience conducting presentations / training. High integrity for dealing with confidential information. Demonstrated professionalism. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with the English Language.

Carry out all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality systems SOP's and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems in order to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be client and patient conscious at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Models positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines of deliverables in a proactive manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.

Physical Requirements:

Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including WWTP and Potable water systems. Lifts light items for limited duration. Ocasional work in outdoor areas. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odours, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator on occasionally.
